What happened
On July 9, 2024, Cloudflare published its Q2 DDoS report, reporting 20% year-over-year growth in observed attacks and a rise in ransom reports among surveyed attacked customers in May. These findings describe its network and survey sample, not the entire Internet or WAFPRO.
Implications for website operations
More attacks do not mean every website needs the same large plan. Start with public exposure, interruption costs and legitimate peak traffic. For gaming, transactions and real-time services, track whether genuine users can still connect during an attack, not just total blocked volume.
Operational next steps
Maintain an incident contact sheet with protected endpoints, origins, technical contacts and failover steps. Preserve threat messages and access logs, and verify protection status through trusted support channels.
